BUFFALO, NY, June 06, 2013 -- The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo’s Oliver G. & Sarah Sloan Bauman Fund for the Arts, have awarded over $36,000 to four nonprofit organizations for its 2013 cycle. Awards are distributed to organizations specializing in the arts and culture sector. Grant awards are prioritized first to programs that focus solely on the performance of “traditional, classical ballet and opera on the living stage, and preferably of the English, European, or Russian schools.”

2013 Oliver G. & Sarah Sloan Bauman Fund for the Arts grant recipients include the following:

  • Ballet Artists of WNY, Inc. dba Neglia Ballet
  • Buffalo Opera Unlimited
  • Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra
  • Nickel City Opera

The Bauman Fund for the Arts was established in 1996 by Sarah Bauman Baxter as a unique way to memorialize her father. Mrs. Baxter and her father shared a love for the classics, including classical languages, ballet and opera. At the end of her life she translated that love into this bequest, which Mrs. Baxter said should help “perpetuate the appreciation of such fine arts as an important and integral part of our culture.”

Since 2010, the Oliver G. & Sarah Sloan Bauman Fund for the Arts awarded over $140,000 to Western New York nonprofit organizations for the benefit of the region’s arts and culture sector. For more information on the Bauman Fund for the Arts grants process, please visit www.cfgb.org/bauman.
