$100,000 Grant Available for Western New York Nonprofits

Buffalo, NY – The 21st Century Fund, a fund of the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, is now accepting applications for the 2013-2014 grant cycle. The $100,000 grant will be awarded in March 2014 to a Western New York nonprofit organization.

“We are seeking grant applications that would support a high-impact project that is of strategic importance to Western New York,” said Cynthia Schwartz, Chair of the 21st Century Fund’s Steering Committee. “We hope our $100,000 grant will serve as a catalyst for the completion, or significant advancement, of a project that will improve the quality of life in our community.”

Previous grant winners include the Westminster Economic Development Initiative’s West Side Bazaar project, the Buffalo Zoological Society’s rainforest exhibit, and the Buffalo Museum of Science’s Science Studios.

Key Dates for the 2013-2014 Process:

  • Prospective applicants must register for briefing sessions, which will be held on October 24, 2013 and October 29, 2013. Register at
  • Selected applicants will be invited to present their program at a live event, which will be held in February 2014.
  • The selection of the winner will take place at the Final Vote Event in March 2014.

Created in 1999, the 21st Century Fund is a unique concept in giving designed to develop the spirit of philanthropy across generations. Instead of being funded by one donor, the 21st Century Fund has multiple donors whose funds are pooled to increase impact in the community.

Lifetime members can join as individuals, families, businesses, or organizations for $2,100, and membership pledges can be paid over five years. A special rate of $1,000 is available to people 35 years of age and younger, which can also be paid over five years. The Fund’s membership is a diverse group, which includes professionals, retired persons, families, and students.
