The Community Foundation is Now Accepting Scholarship Applications

Buffalo, NY — The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo announced that its scholarship application for the 2014-2015 school year is now available online. Requirements and application instructions are available on the Community Foundation’s website and the deadline to apply is March 1, 2014. New this year, students can opt in to receive important text message alerts about news and information relating to the scholarship application process. To participate, applicants should text SCHOLARSHIP 2014 to 877-877.

Through the generosity of its donors, the Community Foundation has been awarding scholarships to students from the eight counties of Western New York since 1924. There are more than 200 endowed scholarship funds that have been established by individuals, families, foundations and organizations. Scholarship awards range from approximately $1,000 - $6,000 and are granted based on the donor’s wishes. In 2013, the Community Foundation gave awards totaling over $2.1 million to more than 1,000 Western New York students.

“Many students tell us their scholarship award is what makes a difference between being able to attend post-secondary schools and not,“ said Clotilde Perez-Bode Dedecker, President and CEO of the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo. “The Community Foundation is honored that it is entrusted to maximize the generosity of the individuals, families, foundations and organizations that established funds with us. By doing so, our donors’ investments in scholarships will go further with access to a broader applicant pool and easier access to resources for students to pursue their dreams.”

For students to be eligible for this year’s process, they must be: a current resident of one of the eight counties of Western New York; have a minimum of a “C” average or GPA of 2.0 or greater; and be admitted to a nonprofit [501©3], U.S. Department of Education accredited school for full time study.
