The Community Foundation Announces Four New Board Members

Buffalo, NY – Four local community leaders have joined the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo’s Board of Directors for the 2014 – 2018 term. The newly appointed board members bring extensive talent and experience in community development, investment and financial management, and not-for-profit leadership – all of which advance the Community Foundation’s mission to connect people, ideas and resources to improve lives in Western New York.

Newly Appointed Community Foundation Board Members:

Melissa Garman Baumgart is President of R&P Oak Hill Development, a specialized general contracting and construction management firm serving commercial, private and institutional clients throughout Western New York. Baumgart currently serves as chair on the Board of Directors for The Park School of Buffalo. She also sits on the board of the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation and the Zoological Society of Buffalo. Baumgart holds a B.S. from Purdue University and an M.B.A. from the University at Buffalo.

Gary M. Brost is chairman and CEO of Strategic Investments & Holdings Inc. His board service includes Gateway-Longview, Buffalo State College, the Burchfield Penney Art Center (past chair), and YMCA’s Camp Weona (past chair), as well as various volunteer capacities at Allegheny College. Brost holds a bachelor’s degree from Allegheny College and an M.B.A. from the University at Buffalo. Additionally, he is a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Program for Management Development.

Lawrence C. Franco is a business law and estate planning attorney at Hurwitz & Fine, P.C. and sits on the board of the Jewish Federation of Greater Buffalo, Inc. He is a past president of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Buffalo’s board of trustees. He also served as director of the Erie County Bar Association from 2008-2011. Franco earned his B.A. from the University of Rochester and his J.D. from Albany Law School of Union University.

Alex Llugany Montante is a board member of the Western New York Women’s Foundation, Nichols School and Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute. Montante has previously served on the Bison Children’s Scholarship Fund board, the Zoological Society’s Education & Conservation Committee and the Nichols Alumni board. A former Junior League of Buffalo President, Montante remains deeply involved in the organization. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Smith College and earned masters’ degrees in modern languages and education administration from the University at Buffalo.
