BUFFALO, NY -- The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo’s Oliver G. & Sarah Sloan Bauman Fund for the Arts is now accepting grant applications for its 2014 granting cycle.

The Bauman Fund for the Arts, which is administered by the Community Foundation, awards annual grants to 501©3 nonprofit organizations specializing in the arts and cultural sectors. Applications are due April 14, 2014 and are available for submission at

According to the donor’s wishes, priority is given to applications that focus solely on the performance of “traditional, classical ballet and opera on the living stage, and preferably of the English, European, or Russian schools.” Last year the Community Foundation awarded more than $36,000 to four nonprofit organizations through this competitive process. Recent grantees of this award include, Ballet Artists of WNY, Inc. dba Neglia Ballet, Buffalo Opera Unlimited, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Nickel City Opera.

The Bauman Fund for the Arts was established in 1996 by Sarah Bauman Baxter as a unique way to memorialize her father, Oliver Bauman. Mrs. Baxter and her father shared a love of the classics, including classical languages, ballet and opera. At the end of her life she translated that love into this bequest, which Mrs. Baxter said hoped would help “perpetuate the appreciation of such fine arts as an important and integral part of our culture.”

Since 2010, the Oliver G. & Sarah Sloan Bauman Fund for the Arts has awarded more than $140,000 to Western New York nonprofit organizations for the benefit of the region’s arts and cultural communities. For more information on the Bauman Fund for the Arts grant process, please visit
