The Buffalo News- September 29, 2014:

WASHINGTON – The longstanding lead-paint hazards in 180 Erie County housing units will be fixed under a $3 million federal grant that Erie County received on Monday.

The money, from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of Healthy Homes and Lead Hazard Control, is in addition to another $400,000 in federal funding that will be used to assess lead hazard risks in the county.

Sens. Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten E. Gillibrand, both New York Democrats, announced the funding, which is similar to money that the county has received from the federal government in years past to correct lead paint issues at other homes.

Erie County will collaborate with the Jericho Road Community Center, the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, Belmont Housing Resources Inc. and New York State Department of Health to address the lead paint problems and conduct the safety assessments.
