Buffalo Business First - October 2, 2014:

Philanthropic donors are getting an up-close and personal look at community programs Thursday as part of a day-long bus tour sponsored by the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo.

The community impact client tour will highlight programs and initiatives throughout the region supported by gifts to dozens of funds maintained by the foundation.

Though donors have long been able to read about the impact of their donations in annual reports, the bus tour provides a more in-depth look at ways the foundation is addressing big issues in the region, including poverty, education and environmental issues.

“The tours highlight the Community Foundation’s deep local knowledge and the impact we’re having collectively with partners to drive systemic change,” said Jillian Fiorella, director of communications and branding.

The tour includes stops at Medaille College, the Frank Lloyd Wright Fontana Boat House and Jericho Road Community Health Center.

Gary Mucci, chairman of foundation community impact committee, said the tours have a bigger impact on donors than written reports or videos.

“There’s nothing like seeing it,” he said. “You have to see it and meet the people.”

Donors will also hear more about the investments in and impact of such initiatives as Say Yes Buffalo, the Green and Healthy Homes Initiative, the WNY Environmental Alliance as well as cultural programs like the Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor.
