Buffalo, NY -- The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo’s William F. Thiel Fund is now accepting grant applications for its 2015 grant cycle. Applications for programs supporting Wyoming County health needs are due December 15, 2014 and are available for submission through the Community Foundation’s website at http://www.cfgb.org/for-nonprofits/for-grant-seekers/william-f-thiel-grants/.

William F. Thiel was a long-time philanthropist in the Wyoming County area. A hard worker his entire life, Mr. Thiel was dedicated to his family and the Wyoming County community. In 1974, he left a significant legacy to the County through the creation of the William F. Thiel Trust, a fund held by the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo to benefit the health needs of Wyoming County residents.

Earlier this year, the Community Foundation convened residents, community leaders and healthcare professionals for the 2014 Wyoming County Healthcare Forum to report on Thiel outcomes to date. Since 2008, three Wyoming County Healthcare Forums have been held. This year, it was reported the Thiel Fund has benefited one in two County residents (about 50 percent of Wyoming County’s population).

The Thiel Fund grant process prioritizes applications for programs identified in the Health Needs Assessment. Since 2006, the Thiel Fund has distributed more than $2 million in grants to healthcare organizations serving Wyoming County and has most recently provided grants to Geneseo Migrant Center, Oak Orchard Health, Western New York Rural Area Health Education Center, Wyoming Community Hospital Foundation and Wyoming County Community Action.
