Buffalo, NY – The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo is proud to announce that Vice President, Betsy Constantine was among five finalists for the 2015 ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award. Other 2015 ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Finalists were: Mary Miller of BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York; Shannon Linehan of Journeys End Refugee Services (2015 ATHENA Young Professional Award recipient); Brandye Merriweather of Buffalo Urban Development Corporation; and Shira Brown, M.D. of the Niagara Health System.

The ATHENA Awards, inspired by the Greek goddess, honors individuals who have achieved the highest level of professional excellence, contribute time and energy to improve the quality of life for others, and actively assist others, particularly women, in realizing their full leadership potential.

The ATHENA Leadership Award is presented annually by chambers of commerce, women’s organizations and universities around the globe. Locally, the 2015 ATHENA Awards Ceremony marked the 25th anniversary that the Buffalo Niagara Partnership has been recognizing outstanding individuals in the Greater Buffalo/Niagara Region who have achieved professional success and work to advance the status of women in our region.

As part of the ceremony, Betsy shared her thoughts on what makes a great leader: “A great leader is somebody who has the flexibility and the foresight and the skill to bring others along with you. The greatest leaders that we will ever see are those who place the highest value on people and strengthening those around you.”
