Community Foundation Accepting Applications for '16 Competitive Grants and Ralph C. Wilson Funds

Buffalo, NY – The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo is now accepting Letters of Intent for the Foundation’s 2016 competitive grant process, including the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation Funds.

Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo 2016 Competitive Grants
The Community Foundation awards annual competitive grants to nonprofit organizations that address one or more of the Foundation’s four community goals:

  • Improving educational achievement for students living in low-income households
  • Increasing racial/ethnic equity
  • Enhancing and leveraging significant natural resources
  • Strengthening the region as a center for architecture, arts, and culture

These grant opportunities are just a piece of the Community Foundation’s annual investment in Western New York, which totaled over $14 million in 2015.

The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation Funds
This is the inaugural grantmaking year for The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation Funds, which were created in late 2015 by The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation through the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo to provide annual support to three areas of interest that were important to Mr. Wilson during his lifetime:

  • The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation Fund for Cancer Care will offer grants to nonprofit organizations that provide emotional care and supportive services to cancer patients and their families from diagnosis to recovery.
  • The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation Fund for Community Assets will offer grants to nonprofit organizations located in Erie County that are significant cultural community assets serving as destinations for cultural tourism.
  • The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation Fund for Youth Sports will offer grants to local agencies, school districts, independent schools, and nonprofit organizations that provide opportunities for youth sports in Western New York. The Foundation will consider grants that support programming and small scale capital needs such as equipment, field, and stadium needs.

Letters of Intent for these grant opportunities must be submitted electronically by 4:00 PM on February 1, 2016. Applicants must be a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization located within the eight counties of Western New York, including: Allegany; Cattaraugus; Chautauqua; Erie; Genesee; Niagara; Orleans; and Wyoming Counties.

The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo holds over 800 funds with assets totaling more than $330 million and is one of the region’s largest grantmakers.
