Disaster Relief Efforts

The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo extends its thoughts to those affected in recent months by natural disasters. In the Caribbean, Puerto Rico and southern United States, Hurricanes Irma, Maria and Harvey caused casualties and extensive damage, and, in early October, wildfires devastated large parts of northern California.

As communities start to rebuild and recover after these disasters, many people in our community have asked about ways to help. In these cases, we recommend giving funds directly to the relief efforts.

We have provided some resources below.

Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund

The Mayor of Houston and our colleagues at the Greater Houston Community Foundation have established the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund to support both immediate needs and support the long-term rebuilding efforts. Learn more at ghcf.org.

All Hands Volunteers

All Hands Volunteers is an organization that not only responds to the initial damage sustained from a natural disaster, but stays to help communities recover and rebuild. Hurricanes Irma and Maria

Community Foundation of Puerto Rico

Our colleagues at the Community Foundation of Puerto Rico, or FundaciĆ³n Comunitaria de Puerto Rico, in partnership with Hispanics for Philanthropy, established the Hurricane Relief Fund for Puerto Rico, Cuba and Florida to support the victims of Hurricane Maria as well as Hurricane Irma.
