Making a Difference Forever
Whether they are kayaking, traveling or volunteering, Michael and Glenys Butler have embraced life, their community and giving back in a meaningful way. The couple moved to Michael’s hometown, East Aurora, from Minneapolis when he retired as an airline pilot and Glenys retired from her work as a psychotherapist. They fell in love with the community almost immediately and wanted to be a part of the inspiring resurgence happening in our region.
“We progressively became more and more involved in the community,” said Michael. “As we did, the community started to feel like our family and we wanted to ensure we were doing our part to help out causes that were important to us, now and forever.”
Michael and Glenys felt responsible for planning the distribution of their assets to benefit their community for generations to come. They were referred to the Community Foundation by a foundation in the Midwest and knew right away they had found the right philanthropic partner.
“One of the first things that I liked about the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo is the fact that we could set up our own foundation within the Foundation and support the charities that we were most interested in,” said Glenys. “Now the Community Foundation is also exposing us to new ideas, new issues and new possibilities.”
Michael and Glenys are now confident their generosity will benefit the community long after they are gone.
“We don’t have kids, but this gives us a way to feel that our family name will carry on forever in this great area, with these good people, which fulfills a lot of things for us,” said Michael.
"We love the community. We love the people and the Community Foundation gives us an opportunity to go on being a part of it in a very reliable way.”
