The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo is seeking to hire a Senior Accountant.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant is an enthusiastic and experienced professional dedicated to helping the Foundation accomplish its mission by ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and integrity of its financial processes. The Senior Accountant plays a key role in managing complex accounting tasks, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting the organization’s strategic goals. Reporting to the Associate Vice President/Controller, this exempt position is part of the Finance team.
A successful Senior Accountant has a high level of attention to detail, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a strong ability to handle multiple priorities. This individual must uphold the highest standards of ethics and confidentiality at all times. The Community Foundation offers a competitive compensation package with excellent benefits.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reconcile external grants and track personnel efforts, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with funding requirements.
- Perform Greenway project accounting and maintain related entries in the financial system.
- Review and manage the Finance Check Log to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Oversee gift upload processes and verify accurate allocation to appropriate accounts and funds.
- Conduct Stripe reconciliations to ensure seamless processing and accurate financial reporting.
- Handle deposits, ensuring all incoming funds are recorded and allocated appropriately.
- Collaborate with other team members to enhance system efficiencies and reporting accuracy.
- Support the Associate Vice President/Controller in preparing for audits and other compliance activities.
- Protect the Foundation’s reputation and value by maintaining confidentiality and promoting the highest standards of accuracy.
OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Perform special projects or tasks as assigned by the Associate Vice President/Controller.

TRAVEL:
- Generally, travel is primarily within the eight counties of Western New York.
- Minimal travel may be required for professional development or organizational needs.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE/EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- A minimum of three years of progressive accounting experience, including grant and reconciliation work.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and financial software systems.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices (GAAP).
- Experience with reconciliations, reporting, and general ledger management.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Pay Range: $70,000 – $75,000 Annually
