Leading the Way to a Better WNY
Many clients establish funds to address the changing needs of our community over time. The Community Foundation uses these funds to tackle those critical issues where change is needed most to improve the lives of many. Others donate annually to allow the Community Foundation flexibility in addressing our community's most pressing needs, while simultaneously enhancing our ability to capitalize on unique opportunities.
Currently, these strategic dollars are making great strides to reduce the number of children affected by lead poisoning, increase literacy among our region’s children, restore and preserve our natural resources and make our cultural organizations stronger.
National Publications Promote Community Foundation's Work in WNY
Recently, two leaders in the field of philanthropy highlighted the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo’s leadership work as examples of best practices.
The Miami-based John S. and James L. Knight Foundation sent a video crew to Buffalo in August to create a documentary and publication about the Foundation’s efforts to create the Western New York Environmental Alliance and GrowWNY.org. The video was then shown at the Council on Foundations annual conference as an example of excellence in using technology to improve information sharing.
The Council on Foundations highlighted the Community Foundation’s success in creating partnerships among public and private organizations through its Green and Healthy Homes Initiative.
